Most of the locations we do photography at requires your dog to be on a leash and we always recommend using them for better control. How do we get the best photographs when the leash seems like it would be in all the pet photos? We simply use custom made dog leashes that can be edited out after the photography is completed.
Our leashes are made out of a type of paracord that has a 275lb strength rating. It is over 20 feet long so your pet can still run and play, but thin enough to edit out in Photoshop. This modified leash is also a camouflage color to better blend into the environment. When it does show, it is easier for our pet photographer to remove compared to a thicker one. If you look below you can see a photograph where the leash was edited out. Granted, it is not an instant edit but it is made much easier with the thin leash we supply. This photograph was taken near the tidal basin in Washington DC, which is a very public area. Having the leash on prevented any issues during our dog photography session.
The person handling the leash will either be you or our assistant/dog trainer. It will depend on the type of photographs we are trying to capture at that moment, and it will depend on if our trainer needs the dog to be focused or just acting natural. Keep in mind you will still want to bring your own leash to transport your pet to the location and from the car. However, we will always bring our custom made ones for when the session starts.
We always want your pets to be safe, so unless we are at your home, or in a fenced in area we will have your dog on a leash. This is especially important so if another dogs comes by your dog does not run off to play. If you have questions we are glad to talk to you on the phone or by email. We look forward to photographing your pet!
